Themed Tour: Black Metal
Counterculture and Cultural Heritage
What is Norwegian black metal? In this tour, we take a closer look at this distinctive Norwegian music genre, which has been both praised and embraced internationally.
For some, black metal may feel unfamiliar, the raw sound, the dramatic makeup, or the many serious criminal incidents associated with the scene in the early 1990s. Others embrace both the music and its aesthetics, turning it into a way of life. The genre has become part of Norway’s cultural history, and in Opplyst, the album A Blaze in the Northern Sky represents an element of Norwegian cultural heritage.
In this themed guided tour in Opplyst, we highlight motifs that black metal has drawn from other parts of cultural history. How has black metal developed into a part of our shared cultural heritage?
The tour lasts approximately 30 minutes. You can sign up by selecting one of the available dates in the list below. Maximum 15 participants per tour.
