Visual identity

The National Library’s logo has three elements: a wordmark, an emblem and a lockup combining the two.

Wordmark

The National Library’s wordmark in aubergine.

The wordmark is the Library’s name set in its brand typeface, STK Bureau Sans. It is available in both Norwegian and English.

Emblem

The National Library’s emblem in peach on an aubergine background.

The emblem represents the meeting of the book and the digital. It can be used on its own wherever the logo needs to be small, such as a social media profile picture or a website favicon.

Lockup

The National Library’s logo lockup in aubergine.

The emblem and wordmark together can be used in public settings, and whenever the Library’s logo is used by other organisations

Logo files

The downloadable package includes the logo in several formats:

  • PNG – a raster format for web and screens that supports transparency. Suitable for digital uses where large sizes aren’t needed.
  • SVG – a vector format for the web. Vector files can be scaled up or down without losing sharpness or quality.
  • PDF – an accessible vector format, well suited to printing the logo on promotional material.
  • AI – Adobe Illustrator’s file format, commonly used by designers placing the logo in print files.

Colours

The National Library’s palette pairs deep plum tones with soft peach tones in varying levels of saturation.

Colour combinations

The identity offers three colour settings: neutral, standard and bold. Standard is the default and the best place to start. Use neutral if you need a restrained palette, and bold for on-screen formats where you want the brand to stand out.”

Colour settings in light mode

Neutral pairs Aubergine with a White background.
Standard pairs Aubergine with a Peach 20 background.
Bold pairs Plum with a Peach 40 background.

Light versions of the three colour settings: Neutral, Standard and Bold.

Colour settings in dark mode

Neutral pairs White with a Black background.
Standard pairs Peach 20 with an Aubergine background.
Bold pairs Peach 40 with a Plum background.

Dark versions of the three colour settings: Neutral, Standard and Bold.

Logo colour guidelines

The logo can be used in any of the colour variants, as long as there is enough contrast between the logo and its background.

On the National Library’s own platforms, the preferred combinations are an Aubergine logo on a Peach 20 or Peach 40 background in light mode, and a Peach 40 logo on an Aubergine background in dark mode.

When the logo is used by other organisations, the preferred variants are Aubergine or Black in light mode, and White on transparent background if a dark mode version is needed.
