Books

Printed books that are intended for distribution to the general public must be deposited in three copies. Both publishers and printing houses are obliged to deposit copies to the National Library.

The following should be deposited

  • Digital files used as the basis for printed publications (print source materials). We ask that you provide us with the final version, which means the files that will actually be used for printing. The files should be of the highest possible quality. Bokbasen handles the legal deposit of digital print source material and digitally published material for publishers who have a distribution agreement with them
  • Publications that are only released digitally, such as e-books
  • Three copies of printed books, maps, reports, and music scores

If a book is printed abroad or at the publisher’s own printing house, the publisher submits all three copies.

The digital print source files for printed books can be deposited through the following form (login via Altinn).

You are obligated to submit printed books even if you also submit the digital print source file.

The costs are covered by the one who deposits.
