During the 1980s much of the international music scene resembles an assembly line of one hit wonders in flamboyant clothes and tall hair. Still, the decade can also be viewed as a period when the catchy pop melody takes center stage. In the intersection between musical workmanship and pure commercialism, a-ha makes its name.

In the beginning a-ha is positioned as a readymade and timely concept for teens. The trio masters fully the art of posing seductively, both in the international flora of pop magazines and on MTV. The band becomes trendsetters with their torn jeans, layered shirts and Morten Harket's characteristic leather wrist wraps.

But it is the dream of making the perfect pop song that drives a-ha. In addition to Hunting High and Low, the critics' favourite Scoundrel Days (1986) and Stay On These Roads (1988), the band can present an impressive catalogue of hits during two world tours from 1986 through 1989.
