Aineisto sis\u00e4lt\u00e4\u00e4 suomi toisena kielen\u00e4 ja suomi toisena kotimaisena kielen\u00e4 -oppim\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4 opiskelleiden lukiolaisten puhen\u00e4ytteit\u00e4 sek\u00e4 maahanmuuttajataustaisten yliopisto-opiskelijoidensuomen alkeiskursseilta ker\u00e4ttyj\u00e4 puhen\u00e4ytteit\u00e4. Lis\u00e4ksi aineisto sis\u00e4lt\u00e4\u00e4 puhen\u00e4ytteiden litteraatit sek\u00e4 puhen\u00e4ytteille annetut asiantuntija-arviot, puhujien ja arvioijien taustatiedot ja kyselyvastaukset. Teht\u00e4v\u00e4t, kyselylomakkeet ja arviointikriteerit ovat saatavissa: https:\/\/zenodo.org\/communities\/digitala\/. Aineisto on ker\u00e4tty syksyll\u00e4 2021 osana DigiTala-tutkimushanketta (Suomen Akatemia 2019\u20132023). <\/p>\n

DigiTala-tutkimushankkeen ensisijainen tavoite oli kehitt\u00e4\u00e4 automaattiseen puheentunnistukseen ja automaattiseen arviointiin perustuva digitaalinen sovellus, joka antaa automaattista palautetta kielen oppijan puheesta. Ensimm\u00e4iset kohdekielet olivat ruotsi ja suomi toisena \/ toisena kotimaisena kielen\u00e4. Sovelluksia kehitettiin kahteen k\u00e4ytt\u00f6tarkoitukseen. Ensinn\u00e4kin automatiikkaa hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4v\u00e4t sovellukset mahdollistavat suullisen kielitaidon arvioimisen suurissa ja t\u00e4rkeiss\u00e4 kielikokeissa, kuten ylioppilastutkinnon kielikokeissa. Toiseksi kielen oppijat voivat sovellusten avulla harjoitella vieraan kielen \u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4mist\u00e4 ja puheen tuottamista itsen\u00e4isesti koulun ulkopuolella tai opettajan ohjaamana kielten oppitunneilla. <\/p>\n

Tutkimushankkeen aikana ker\u00e4ttiin suomen oppijoiden puhetta lukiolaisilta ja aikuisilta. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 kuvatun aineiston sek\u00e4 kev\u00e4\u00e4n 2021 aineiston (http:\/\/urn.fi\/urn:nbn:fi:lb-2023012621) lis\u00e4ksi hankkeessa k\u00e4ytettiin aiemman DigiTala-hankkeen (Svenska folkskolans v\u00e4nner 2015-2017) lukiolaisilta ker\u00e4\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4 ruotsin puheaineistoa (ks. http:\/\/urn.fi\/urn:nbn:fi:lb-2017081502) sek\u00e4 Yleisten kielitutkintojen suomen ja ruotsin kokeisiin osallistuneiden puhetta (ks. http:\/\/urn.fi\/urn:nbn:fi:lb-2023012629). <\/p>\n

Osa puheaineistosta litteroitiin. Projekti j\u00e4rjesti yhteens\u00e4 nelj\u00e4 arviointikierrosta, jossa ihmisarvioijat arvioivat puhen\u00e4ytteit\u00e4 k\u00e4ytt\u00e4en hankkeen laatimia kriteerej\u00e4. <\/p>\n

Kolmen yliopiston tutkijatiimeiss\u00e4 ty\u00f6skenteli niin kielten opetuksen, puheen- ja kielenk\u00e4sittelyn kuin fonetiikan asiantuntijoita Helsingin yliopistosta (apurahanumero 322619), Aalto-yliopistosta (apurahanumero 322625) ja Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n yliopistosta (apurahanumero 322965).<\/p>\n

This resource includes speech samples from L2 Finnish speakers, transcripts, human ratings, the learners’ responses to post-test surveys and the raters’ responses to post-rating surveys. The data was collected in the DigiTala research project (2019\u20132023) during autumn 2021 from upper secondary school students and university students learning Finnish as a second language. <\/p>\n

The main goal for DigiTala research project is to develop a digital tool that uses automatic speech recognition and automatic scoring to assess L2 Finnish and Swedish learners’ oral skills. The tool also provides automated feedback on learners’ speaking performances. The purpose of the digital tool developed in the project is to make assessment of oral language skills possible in high-stakes language tests. Furthermore, students can practice their pronunciation and speech production in foreign languages independently outside the school or without the teacher\u2019s guidance at language classes.<\/p>\n

During the project, material was collected from upper secondary school students and university students learning Finnish as a second language. In addition to the resource described here and the data from spring 2021 (http:\/\/urn.fi\/urn:nbn:fi:lb-2023012621), the project made use of the speech material collected in a previous DigiTala project (by Svenska folkskolans v\u00e4nner in 2015-2017) from upper secondary school students learning Swedish (see http:\/\/urn.fi\/urn:nbn:fi:lb-2017081502) and speech from Finnish and Swedish tests (see http:\/\/urn.fi\/urn:nbn:fi:lb-2023012629). <\/p>\n

Part of the speech material was transcribed during the project. Ratings were organized in four rounds where human raters evaluated a number of speech samples by using the rating criteria developed in the project.<\/p>\n

The project is funded by the Academy of Finland 2019\u20132023, and combines expertise in speech and language processing, language education and phonetics at the University of Helsinki (grant number 322619), Aalto University (grant number 322625) and the University of Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4 (grant number 322965). The current project builds on lessons learned during a pilot project (DigiTala 2015\u20132017).<\/p>\n
