\n Suomen murteiden sanakirja (SMS) on laaja aineistopohjainen suomen murteiden sanaston kuvaushanke. <\/p>\n

Sanakirjan ensimm\u00e4inen osa ilmestyi 1985, ja 20-osaiseksi suunnitellusta sanakirjasta ehti ilmesty\u00e4 kahdeksan noin tuhannen sivun laajuista painettua osaa, jotka kattavat sanat aakkosv\u00e4list\u00e4 a\u2013kurvottaa. Vuonna 2010 p\u00e4\u00e4tettiin, ett\u00e4 sanakirja julkaistaan vastedes vain s\u00e4hk\u00f6isess\u00e4 muodossa k\u00e4ytt\u00e4jilleen maksuttomana verkkoversiona. Ensimm\u00e4inen jakso verkkosanakirjaa (kus-kynts\u00f6tt\u00e4\u00e4) ilmestyi vuoden 2012 alussa, ja t\u00e4m\u00e4n j\u00e4lkeen verkkoon tuotetaan sek\u00e4 uusia ett\u00e4 jo painettuna ilmestyneit\u00e4 (aakkos)jaksoja noin vuoden v\u00e4lein. 22.10.2014 p\u00e4ivityksen j\u00e4lkeen sanakirjasta on verkossa aakkosv\u00e4li kala – k\u00e4\u00e4v\u00e4t\u00e4. <\/p>\n

SMS kuvaa kaikkien suomen murteiden koko sanaston. Sanakirjassa ei siis tehd\u00e4 eroa sen suhteen, onko sana ns. murteellinen vai yleis- tai kirjakieleen kuuluva. T\u00e4llainen eronteko olisi osittain mahdotonkin, sill\u00e4 yleiskielen sanasto perustuu suurimmaksi osaksi murteiden sanastoon.<\/description>
\n The purpose of the Dictionary of Finnish Dialects is to present the vocabulary of the Finnish dialects based on a large amount of data collected. <\/p>\n

The first part of the dictionary, which was planned to contain 20 volumes, was published in 1985. By 2010 eight approximately 1000 pages long volumes were published. These volumes covered the words from the letter \u201ca\u201d to the word \u201ckurvottaa\u201d. In 2010, it was decided that the dictionary should be published from then on in an electronic form as an online service that can be used free of charge. The first part of the online dictionary (kus-kynts\u00f6tt\u00e4\u00e4) was published in early 2012, after which the dictionary is to be enlarged with both new and already printed alphabetical parts about once a year. On 22 October 2014 the online dictionary was enlarged to contain the words from «kala» to «k\u00e4\u00e4v\u00e4t\u00e4.»<\/p>\n

The dictionary presents the entire vocabulary of all the Finnish dialects. It does not make a distinction based on whether the word is dialectal or standard \/ literary. Such a distinction would be to a certain degree impossible, since the vocabulary of standard Finnish is mostly based on the vocabulary of different Finnish dialects.<\/description>
