Totalt best\u00e5r materialet av omlag 4,1 milliardar «tokens» (ord og teiknsetjing), noko som gjer korpuset til eit av dei st\u00f8rste fritt tilgjengelege tekstkorpusa for bokm\u00e5l og nynorsk. Korpuset inneheld \u00f2g tekster p\u00e5 nordsamisk, s\u00f8rsamisk, lulesamisk og engelsk.<\/p>\n

Dataa vart samla inn som ein lekk i M\u00e5lfrid-prosjektet, der Nasjonalbiblioteket p\u00e5 vegner av Kulturdepartementet og i samarbeid med Spr\u00e5kr\u00e5det haustar og aggregerer tekstdata for \u00e5 dokumentere bruken av bokm\u00e5l og nynorsk hj\u00e5 statlege institusjonar.<\/p>\n

Spr\u00e5kbanken f\u00f8retok ei fokusert hausting av nettsidene til dei aktuelle institusjonane mellom 11. desember 2020 og 18. januar 2021. Tekstdokument (HTML, DOC(X)\/ODT og PDF) vart lasta ned rekursivt fr\u00e5 dei ulike domena, 12 niv\u00e5 ned p\u00e5 nettsidene. Me tok \u00e5lmenne h\u00f8flegheitsomsyn og respekterte robots.txt.<\/p>\n

Dei nedlasta dokumenta vart prosessert vidare. Bolkar med tekst vart ekstrahert fr\u00e5 HTML med Justext, eit system for «boilerplate removal» (http:\/\/corpus.tools\/wiki\/Justext). Textract (https:\/\/textract.readthedocs.io\/en\/stable\/) vart brukt for \u00e5 ekstrahere tekst fr\u00e5 Word\/ODT-dokument, mens Cloud Vision OCR fr\u00e5 Google (https:\/\/textract.readthedocs.io\/en\/stable\/) vart brukt til \u00e5 ekstrahere tekst fr\u00e5 pdf-filer.<\/p>\n

Dei ekstraherte tekstene vart klassifiserte ved bruk av TextCat spr\u00e5kidentifikasjon (https:\/\/www.let.rug.nl\/~vannoord\/TextCat\/) p\u00e5 dokumentniv\u00e5. Eksakte duplikat av same dokument (innanfor same domene) vart fjerna.<\/p>\n

Korpuset er lagt til rette som gzippa JSON-liner (jsonl), eitt dokument per line. Det er ei JSONL-fil for kvar kombinasjon av domene, spr\u00e5k og innhaldstype. Filene er p\u00e5 UTF-8 tekstformat, med ASCII lineskift. Kvart dokument inneheld dei f\u00f8lgande nyklane:<\/p>\n

– lang: spr\u00e5k i dokumentet (identifisert med TextCat)
\n– url: url-en til dokumentet d\u00e5 det vart hausta
\n– date: dato for innhausting av dokumentet
\n– mimetype: (forenkla) mediatype for dokumentet: HTML, DOC eller PDF
\n– fulltext: ei rekkje av strenger, der kvar streng representerer eitt avsnitt – ein tom streng angir ei ny side i PDF-dokumenta<\/description>This corpus consists of documents from 339 internet domains run by Norwegian state institutions, and comprises approximately 4.1 billion tokens (words and punctuation) in total, which makes it one of the largest freely available text resources for Norwegian Bokm\u00e5l and Nynorsk. In addition to Norwegian, the corpus contains texts in Northern Sami, Lule Sami, Southern Sami and English.<\/p>\n

The data were collected as part of the so-called M\u00e5lfrid project, where the National Library of Norway on behalf of the Ministry of Culture and in collaboration with the The Language Council of Norway collects and aggregates data for mapping the usage of Norwegian Bokm\u00e5l and Norwegian Nynorsk in Norwegian state institutions.<\/p>\n

The corpus is the result of a focused crawl conducted between December 11th 2020 and January 18th 2021, recursively downloading text documents (HTML, DOC(X)\/ODT and PDF) from a set of domains (down to and including level 12), while obeying robots.txt and politeness restrictions.<\/p>\n

The crawled documents were further processed according to their format: text was extracted from HTML using the boilerplate removal system Justext (http:\/\/corpus.tools\/wiki\/Justext), from Word\/ODT documents using Textract (https:\/\/textract.readthedocs.io\/en\/stable\/) and from PDFs using Google Cloud Vision OCR.<\/p>\n

The extracted text was classified using TextCat language identification (cf. https:\/\/www.let.rug.nl\/~vannoord\/TextCat\/) at document level, provided as part of the metadata. The documents were deduplicated on domain level (exact duplicates).<\/p>\n

The corpus is provided as gzipped JSON lines (jsonl), one document per line. There is one JSONL file per combination of domain, language and content type. The files are encoded as UTF-8, with ASCII escape sequences. Each document contains the following keys:<\/p>\n

– lang: language of the document (detected using TextCat)
\n– url: the url of the document at crawl time
\n– date: crawl date
\n– mimetype: media type of the document (simplified): HTML, DOC or PDF
\n– fulltext: an array of strings, where each string represents one paragraph.
