The recordings took place in the speakers\u2019 homes or in a hotel room.<br \/>\nSigurd Nordlie was recorded in his office at the University of Oslo. The tapes were digitized<br \/>\nin the 1990s.<\/p>\n<p>The speakers<br \/>\nThe speakers were recruited with the help of Sigurd Nordlie (1936\u20132018), who at the time<br \/>\nwhen the recordings were made, worked as a lexicographer at the University of Oslo. Nordlie<br \/>\nhimself was from Lesja in North Gudbrandsdaland and is one of the nine speakers. Most of<br \/>\nthem were well educated and interested in the local dialect. Their speech will therefore at least<br \/>\nin some cases represent a more traditional and idealized dialect than that of many of their<br \/>\ncontemporaries.
