Two families that
have been bitter enemies are to be reconciled through the wedding of Olaf Liljekrans and
Ingeborg of Guldvik. But Olaf is in love with Alfhild, whom he met in the mountains, and
Ingeborg is secretly in love with her father's servant Hemming. During the night before
the wedding Olaf disappears into the mountains. When he and Alfhild are caught together,
his mother, Lady Kirsten, lays a cunning plan. Alfhild is invited to the wedding believing
that she will be married to Olaf, and Hemming is fooled by Lady Kirsten into thinking that
she will help him get his Ingeborg. In reality the lady is planning to have Alfhild and
Hemming marry each other at the same time as Olaf and Ingeborg. The lovers see through her
deception and escape to the mountains. Alfhild is accused of witchcraft, and the peasants
want to stone her, but Olaf enters declaring he wants Alfhild and no one else. At the same
time Alfhild's father declares that the one who finds Ingeborg will get to marry her. Soon
after Ingeborg shows up accompanied by Hemming, and so both loving couples are united in
the end. |
