THE PUCK
Oh, yes, you all wander and dream out there
and whether your minds be misty or clear.
I have got you caught in my snares so tight!
Oh, this puck shall enjoy himself tonight.

Transl. by Bent Kvalvik.

On a farm in Telemark four young people meet on a midsummer's evening. They are Johannes and Juliane, who are engaged to be married, Juliane's step sister Anne and Johannes' school mate Julian. The foursome go into the woods to celebrate St. John's Night, are caught up in the celebrations of the elves and are invited to a party inside the Blue Mountain, ruled by the Mountain King. The young ones react in different ways to these experiences, and the upshot of the night's goings-on is that Johannes and Anne fall in love with each other, while Juliane and Julian also find each other. Complications ensue; Anne turns out to have been deceived of an inheritance, but now receives it as a proper dowry, the lovers are united and all ends well.
