Emigrated to Muskego, Wisconsin in 1840. In September 1861 he entered the Union Army as Colonel and headed the famed 15th Wisconsin Regiment comprised of Norwegian-American volunteers from Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois. Colonel Heg died September 20, 1863, from wounds suffered at the battle of Chickamauga, Georgia.
