The Immigrant in America collection covers a wide range of nationalities. Many selections are written in the native language of the immigrants. The collection has been assembled from several major archives including the New York Public Library; the holdings of the Balch Institute of Philadelphia; and the Immigration History Research Center at the University of Minnesota.

The National Library of Norway has bought the 28 reels that contain 444 books in full text, which deal with Norwegian emigration to America and Norwegian-American history between 1825 and 1929.

The Guide to the Microfilm Collection provides bibliographic information. There is a Main Entry Index and a Title Listing.

  • The Main Entry Index is arranged alphabetically by author. There are 10–12 books in full text on each reel.
  • The Title Listing provides access to the microfilm by title.
