The millions of letters written by Norwegian-Americans to family and friends in Norway give us a perspective on the immigrant experience that is different from that provided by history books. The letters, which have been called "America letters," record the immigrant experience on the grassroots level. Historians, too, now realize the value of these letters as historical source material.

  • " From America to Norway: Norwegian Americans Write Home" by Knut Sprauten, The Norwegian Institutute of Local History, Oslo
