Welcome to Norway in America, the bibliography of documents by and/or about Norwegian immigrants to the US and Canada printed 1825-1930. This bibliography was prepared by Norwegian librarian Thor M. Andersen (1897-1979) and has been edited and converted to computer in a project sponsored by the former University of Oslo Library, Norwegian-American Collection (Today: National Library of Norway, Oslo Division. Norwegian-American Collection.) and the Institute for British and American Studies at the University of Oslo. Thor M. Andersen claimed that the bibliography includes 60% of the printed documents in the field. Except for standardization of the format of the entries and verification of some unclear cases, the bibliography is presented here as Andersen prepared it. He alone is responsible for the extent and accuracy of the contents.

Norway in America contains references to books, pamphlets and articles in newspapers and periodicals. Most of the documents are written in English or Norwegian. The bibliography has an index of place and personal names but documents are not classified by subject. Biographical information printed before 1978 about the authors of documents in the bibliography and sources of such information is also included in English. Biographical information is also supplied for journalists and editors of Norwegian-American periodicals even if no specific titles written by these persons are listed. Likewise some persons are included whom the compiler believed could have been authors of documents although their works were never found. Translators, compilers and editors are treated as authors. Documents which were published as part of a debate or as comments on, replies to or reviews of previously published documents included in the bibliography are listed only in the notes to the primary document, not as separate entries.
