How to use the search form

In the search form you can choose which field to search in, how the search string should be found, and what the search string should be.
The fields that can be searched are:
Bergen #
NIyR #
Transliteration
Normalized text
Object
Find place

Bergen #

This is an internal archive number used at the Norwegian Runic Archives (Runearkivet) for inscriptions from Bergen before they are published in "Norges Innskrifter med de yngre Runer". You can search for values from B001 to B670. In addition there is a group of inscriptions registered outside the Bergen # system. These are lsited with Bergen # = 'B'+ NIyR #. These last numbers are non contiguous between BN225 and BN544

NIyR #

These numbers are used in "Norges Innskrifter med de yngre Runer". You can search for numbers between 603 and 772 and the non contiguous area between 225 and 544.

Transliteration

This is a transliteration of the Runic inscription that also contains encoding to show certain aspects of the inscription. Bind-runes are for instance placed within parentheses: h(af)diæfr. This example is from B number B055. Since this field contains such encodings, it may be difficult to enter an exact search string. Often the "Normalized text" field will be better suited for searches.

Normalized text

This is the Runic inscription in normalized Norse (or in Latin, in a few cases). Here there are (almost) no markup codes.

Object

The object field is not used for a fixed vocabulary. The describing text is in Norwegian.
