HOW TO USE THE BIBLIOGRAPHY


The search fields

Author:
In this field you can search for the author, co-author, editor or translator of a document (books, articles etc.). Until further notice you can also use this field to search for actors, directors etc. mentioned in reviews of theater presentations. When using this field you may use the full name of an author, last name first (eg. Brandes, Georg), the last name only or even the first name only if that should be necessary.

Title:
In the title field you may search by title. This includes the title of documents or the title of periodicals or a series in which articles may be included. You may use the full title or any words in the title.

Subject:
A subject in the Ibsen Bibliography is considered to be:
  • persons other than Ibsen
  • the title of a document by Ibsen in the original language
  • subject words describing the content of a document (at present only in Norwegian, eg. livsløgn, skyld)
  • subject words describing the format of a document (at present only in Norwegian, eg. intervju, teateranmeldelse, hovedoppgave)
  • the names of characters in Ibsen´s plays

Year of publication:
Write the year of publication of the document in the search field. If you use the truncation symbol ! instead of the fourth digit you can search for the whole decade.

Language:
An international standard abbreviation for languages is used. This consists of three letters and is usually the first three letters in the English name for the language. Eg. nob (Norwegian), dan (Danish), swe (Swedish), eng (English), ger (German), fre (French), spa (Spanish), rus (Russian), chi (Chinese)

ISBN:
You may write the ISBN (International Standard Book Number) of a book in this field and get all the bibliographical information about the book.

Search in all fields:
If you search for a word or phrase in this field you will get all entries in the bibliography in which that word or phrase is included. If you use eg. Brandes you will get references to books and articles about Ibsen by Brandes as well as references to other books and articles where Brandes is mentioned.


General Information

Diacritical symbols and Norwegian letters

Letters such as á, à etc. may be written with or without the diacritics when you search. You must, however, observe the following rules: If you only have the English alphabet on your keyboard you may substitute the truncation symbols ! or # for letters you do not have. Spelling

The titles of Ibsen's works and the names of characters are spelled as in "Hundreårsutgaven" (Samlede verker, Oslo : Gyldendal, 1928-1957).
